I did a little research this afternoon which indicates there are 4 different approaches to retirement.
(1) The Slow Downers - retirement is a transition to old age, time to slow down.
2) The New Beginers - retirement is a welcome new beginning, revitalizing,
3) The Continuers - do not experience retirement as a major life event, it is instead a continuation of pre-retirement life structure
4) The "Deer in Headlight-ers" - retirement is a major disruption as work is their life, identity and self definition.
Imagine the differences in approaches! There is no right approach... but there certainly needs to be an understanding of what YOUR approach is and what to do about it to make sure your retirement is what you want it to be.
